A splendid example of Jane Peterson's plein air Orientalist work.  A highly listed and sought after female artist,
Jane Peterson is considered  by many as one of the most important female figures in the American Impressionist
movement of the 20th Century.

Jane Peterson was a prolific artist who excelled at capturing her subjects through her singular gesture.  A popular
painter from her first solo exhibition, Peterson was named the “most outstanding individual of the year” in 1938 by
the American Historical Society for her artistic achievement.  During her lifetime, Peterson was regarded as
being one of New York’s most important painters and one of the most respected female artists on the American
Art scene.  The artist's work was widely exhibited by prestigious galleries and her painting became sought after
by prominent collectors.  Interest in this artist’s work  has certainly not diminished, as evidenced by her continuing
escalating auction records and inclusion of her paintings in a number of important private, corporate and
institutional collections.

Unquestionably influenced in her early formation by fauvism, impressionism, expressionism and cubism,
Peterson emerged with her own and distinctive style.  It was this singular gesture that set her apart during her
lifetime and what makes her work so wanted today.  Her favorite medium was watercolor and gouache and
indeed the bulk of her work is in this medium.  The subject work is unquestionably a wonderfully representative
example by the artist whose prices at auction continue to escalate season after season.

Listed: 300 Years of American Art; Mallet’s; Artists’ Signatures; Who Was Who in American Art; Dictionary of
Women Artists; Davenport’s; E. Benezit; Fieldings; AskArt; Artnet.com, and many others.  A complete listing's
folder is supplied with the painting.
